Happy long weekend Friday,

I would like to apologize for not catching a few "date" mistakes in yesterday's Bulldog, the most important of which was the first day of school. Our first day of school for SK to grade 8 is Tuesday, September 5th, not the 6th as was originally reported.  Sorry to those of you who were hoping for the extra day of entertaining your child(ren) at home :)  Here is the "Revised" Welcome Back Bulldog Bulletin and we are excited about welcoming our students back on Tuesday.

We were very pleased to have Constable J. Clarke assist us with our lockdown drill this morning. He also took time to visit each classroom and introduce himself to the students, afterwards.

Sadly, Bell has not been able to resolve our telephone issues.  We still are not able to receive calls and it's not likely to be repaired until Monday.

Good afternoon Valley Families,

I am writing this short email to inform you that, this morning during first recess at approximately 11:30, the fire alarm went off in the school.  It was a false alarm. The majority of students were already outside wearing their winter gear.  A few students were inside at the time and had to exit. Some warm clothing that was available was provided.

The Brighton Fire Department responded promptly with 3 trucks as did teachers heading outside to marshall their students.  No fire or indications of fire were found.  It is most likely that one of the alarms was accidentally bumped and set off the alarm.

Students reentered the building just before noon so students were outside for 25 to 30 minutes.  

I am very pleased with how the staff and students responded to this situation, all their teaching and practice paid off. 

Once again we encourage all students to have and wear indoor footwear at all times when inside and to have an additional layer of clothing, (e.g. sweater, sweatshirt) readily available should something like this happen again, especially during the colder months of the school year.

To reiterate, it was a false alarm, all is well and we are carrying on with our day.

Hello Valley families,

We trust that you had a restful March Break, just in time to gear up for Easter and the mad dash to the summer.  Below are links to important and some time-sensitive notifications that need to be communicated this week.

1. This Thursday is Rock Your (mismatched) Socks Day in recognition of World Down Syndrome Day  

2. If your child(ren) rides bus 235, please read this STSCO Bus 235 notification.

3. Monday, March 25th is the Cake Decorating Contest and Bake Sale.  Contest forms are due tomorrow. On Monday, all Bake Sale items will be $0.50.  Students can spend $1.00 on their first visit and then must wait until all students have had a chance to make a first purchase before purchasing more.

4. Check out and sign up for the Rebound Child and Youth Services Internet Safety Seminar on March 27th.  Free dinner and child care are provided.  Meal starts at 5:30 pm in Port Hope.

5.  Important Dental Screening Information for parents of students in JK, SK, Gr. 2 & Gr.7.  from the HKPR Health Unit.
